Audi TT

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE AUDI TT-RS: www.edmunds.com Since its introduction in 1999, the Audi TT has been known for its unique look — and its lackluster performance. The TT hasn’t exactly been slow, but its lack of serious horsepower made it more of an image car than a true driver’s coupe. This might change with the introduction of the 2009 Audi TT-RS, an all-out performance version of the stylish TT. Caught testing on the Nürburgring test track, the top-of-the-line TT wears several telltale design elements that identify it as a high-performance RS model. Up front, the TT-RS has the same metallic trim across the grille as the TTS, but closer inspection reveals large air intakes at each corner in place of foglights. Other styling differences include seven-spoke wheels and a pair of oval tailpipes, a signature RS design cue. It’s hard to peg which engine will provide the power for the TT-RS at this point. Early rumors suggested a turbocharged five-cylinder, but the recent introduction of Audi’s new 3.0-liter TFSI V6 suggests otherwise. The new supercharged motor is expected to develop roughly 300 horsepower in US trim, a number that would put the TT-RS a solid notch above the TTS with its turbocharged 265-hp inline-4. Expect one of Audi’s S tronic dual-clutch gearboxes with either six gears or possibly even seven. Like all RS models, the TT version will also get a retuned suspension, larger wheels and tires and upgraded brakes. Minor interior upgrades will be part of the

    @Enten901 they have 2 different inline 5′s at 2.5L one for the ttrs and the other for base engines in us vw lineup outputting 170hp. The ttrs shares a similar block but with stronger internals and valvetrain as well as direct injection. and they had a 2.2L vr5 back in the past.

    @29ryan49 they did/do vr5 engines, its a monobank 15 degree staggered inline engine, a cut down vr6. audi always did their 5 cylinder engines in straight configuration

    @Enten901 Also, this engine is Volkswagen’s engine, so how can you say this ones a l5, when you’re saying VW doesn’t make any l5′s. This is basically a turbocharged engine from a standard golf.

    @Enten901 All of VW’s 5cyl’s are inline 5′s, they don’t make any V5′s.

    Do some research before you post a comment thinking you know what you’re talking about.

    I know this is an inline 5.
    VolksWagen doesn’t have any inline 5 motors, but they do have V5 motors.

    what others say about being a vr5 is a possibility, remember VR engines act similar to V but with one cylinder head, the pistons are in V position if u look at the crankshaft from the front, but if u llok from the top ull see the pistons are in a sig sag like position, works like a V engine but pistons are not exactly in front of one another, a vr5 youd see the cyliners like a // a vr6 would be like //

    i would not classify the vr5 engine as a V engine
    based on the vr6 with one less cylinder
    V engine normal compose of two cylinder heads where the VR only has one
    two different breeds
    There are
    rotary/ wankel
    inline =most common
    v-series = most common
    w-series
    vr-series
    i am sure there are more types

    Its a TURBO 5cyl,

    Listen to the sound, clearly tell its not a V6 & you can tell it an American doing the voice-over, Cause it has to be supercharged if its going to America

    there is such a thing as a VAG V5 engine.. you find them in things like the passat.
